São Leonardo de Galafura Viewpoint — Panoramic View over the Douro

One of the most iconic stops on this Douro tour is the São Leonardo de Galafura Viewpoint, one of the most impressive vantage points in the region. From 14h45, participants board at Régua Wharf for a Douro River cruise to Pinhão. Navigating through the Douro Wine Region means contemplating the landscape from a perspective only the river can offer — the terraced hillsides, the estates nestled into the slopes and the mountains that frame the valley.

During the journey, the boat passes through the Bagaúste Dam (28-metre drop), one of the most imposing structures in the region. The tranquillity of the river, the gentle sound of the water and the fresh afternoon air create a relaxing and unforgettable atmosphere.

This Régua–Pinhão cruise operates by river boat between mid-April and mid-October. During other months, it is replaced by a 1-hour rabelo boat cruise in Pinhão — equally unique and memorable.

Return by Train along the Douro Line

After free time in Pinhão, the return to Régua is made by train along the Douro Line — one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Portugal. The wide windows of the train offer privileged views over the river and vineyards, making the return journey as special as the outward trip.

The train is the perfect final touch to a day that began on the river and ends following the Douro by rail.
