Most Mountainous Area of Portugal

Most Mountainous Area of Portugal

In the north of Portugal, high in the mountains, you can find the most acclaimed and beautiful region highlighted by Miguel Torga.

DISCOVER THE MOUNTAINEST AREA OF PORTUGAL

The telluric feeling of the highlands' land

From the top of the mountains...

In the north of Portugal, there is a distinctive region, inhabited by a tough and rugged people, some say, the transmontanos. It is this people, weathered by the mountain air and the cold of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, who inhabit and care for what is the most mountainous region of Portugal.

BREATHE THE DOURO

Miguel Torga told us that “Wherever someone from Trás-os-Montes is, there is something specific, irreducible…” (A Wonderful Kingdom – Miguel Torga)

These people exude something that is hard to break down, a pure, truly pure insubordination.

You can't explain it, but you can see it...

Going up the Douro, starting in Porto and heading towards Peso da Régua, or, conversely, starting in Régua and going down towards Porto, you can see the complete subservience of the land to the will of Man... The Douro terraced vineyards, a mirror of the strength of the local people, shape the landscape. Zigzagging lines, up and down the hillsides, viewed from the middle of the river, invite us to imagine how many lives passed through there, how much sweat watered those vineyards, how many smiles sweetened those grapes...

It is inevitable to wonder what the impact of such an undertaking is on the wines of the region, still made in a traditional way. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a mature red and white wine while having lunch on board the boat and contemplating this whole imaginary.

With this invitation, we leave you once again with the words of Miguel Torga:

“Knock on a door, rich or poor, and always the same confident voice answers us:

– who it is! Without anyone asking anything else, without anyone coming to the window to take a peek, the intimacy of an entire family is wide open. What is needed now is to deserve the magnificence of the gift.”

The Douro has always been part of her life, being, in her opinion, the most emblematic place in Portugal. Of all the places she has already visited, the Douro has special emphasis due to the sensations it transmits and all its harmonious beauty. She is extremely grateful to be able to show people from all over the world the charms of this region.
